INDIGO

Indigo holds significance for the Gullah/Geechee people, descendants of enslaved Africans, through its historical connection to their cultural heritage and their role in the production of indigo dye on plantations in the Lowcountry. The Gullah/Geechee people were essential to indigo cultivation, and the color blue, derived from indigo, holds symbolic meaning for them, often used in artistic expression and protection against harm.

Indigo, a deep blue dye, holds significant meaning and purpose in both Sierra Leone and South Carolina, particularly within the context of textile traditions and historical significance. In Sierra Leone, indigo dyeing is a deeply rooted cultural practice, often signifying wealth, status, and connection to the land and ancestors. In South Carolina, indigo was a major cash crop in the 18th century, driving the economy and contributing to the state's early history. While both regions have utilized indigo for dyeing textiles, the specific cultural meanings and purposes vary.

We want to better understand other perspectives, identify forward-looking trends and developments at an early stage and integrate them into business processes

Dale Larson Initiative- Biogas

Refers to the nutrient-rich liquid or solid residue left over after the process of anaerobic digestion, where bacteria break down animal manure to produce biogas, essentially acting as a natural fertilizer that can be applied to soil to improve plant growth; this byproduct is often called "digestate" and is considered an environmentally friendly way to utilize waste from livestock manure. Key points about biogas manure fertilizer:

  • How it's made:Manure is placed in an airtight digester where bacteria digest the organic matter in the absence of oxygen, producing biogas (mainly methane and carbon dioxide) as a gas and leaving behind a liquid/solid mixture called digestate.
